How to Make an Infinity Scarf

How to Make an Infinity Scarf

How to make an infinity scarf. Infinity scarves are a popular accessory for day and evening wear.  They can be made of just about anything from light weight organza to quilting cotton.  They can even be knitted and crocheted. In this tutorial I will show you just how easy it is to make an infinity scarf.  This is a good beginner sewing project that will add beauty and color to any wardrobe and can be made in no time at all. For this infinity scarf pattern I used a brightly printed polyester that drapes beautifully.  If you would like to obtain a similar fabric I recommend Fabric.com and Hobby Lobby as great sources for the perfect fabric for this project. This post contains affiliate links that if you click on them and make a purchase I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.

What you will Need:

  • 1 yd of  60″ wide fabric
  • Standard sewing supplies

Step 1:  How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Cut your fabric in a rectangle that measures 30″ x 58.  If you are using a lightweight fabric that tends to fray make sure that you use a new sharp needle size 60/8 or 70/10.  Reduce your stitch size to prevent puckering.  If you are using a quilting weight cotton you can sew as usual.  I used a polyester fabric that frays easily so I was careful with my needle choice and my stitch length.

Step 2:  How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Fold the fabric right sides together and long ways.

Step 3:  How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Sew the long edges together to make a long tube.  I used a 1/2″ seam allowance.  Press the seam open.

Step 4:  How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Turn the tube right side out and press.  If you are using a polyester like mine be sure to use a press cloth or set your iron on a low temperature.

Step 5:  How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Lay the tube out and fold one end over so that there is a twist in the center of the scarf.  Take the short ends and pin them so that they are right sides together.  Take care to peel one end back so that the right sides are together and the twist remains in the center of the scarf. Match up the seams before sewing.

Sew the short ends of the scarf together using 1/2″ seam allowance leaving a 4″ gap for turning.

    1. That was my mistake. I apologize if this caused you any problem. I use remnants for many of my projects and actually used 1 yd of a 60″ wide fabric. The measurements and everything else in the tutorial are correct. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have changed the tutorial to reflect that fact.

Looking Forward to Reading your Thoughts on this Project
